Zelda, ever a low-tier character.

I'm serious tired of seeing Zelda be considered one of the worst characters (heck, she's even dead last in Smash 4). What would you buff or change to make her a viable fighter in the eyes of the competition?

  • Fair, bair, and dair's sour spot should be similar to Falcons soft knee. soft knee can cause trips, pushes a tiny bit and actually has some hitstun (still punishable though) so why not Zelda? Also forgot about side b... that move is booty and I don't know how to make it better unless it leaves a trap style flame in its place like in PM. Its a custom move though, so I doubt it'll happen.

  • Simply put, she needs to be safer. Slightly bigger hitboxes and improved frame data pretty much across the board. Also, make her side aerials unpunishable on sourspot hit. If Falcon can get away with his much-easier-to-connect knee sourspot, then Zelda should as well. I'd also slightly buff her back- and up-throws. They feel like they should have just a bit more 'oomph' to them.

  • These are all excellent ideas, and truth be told I'm not a huge Zelda player but I think as a character needs to get better. All I've ever seen are the same setups again and again, so she really is a predictable character. If I could change one, ONE thing about her...I think I'd make Din's Fire a better projectile somehow. It's always been awful, and I'm sure it having SOME use would benefit her.

  • Frankly, no matter how you alter Din's Fire's statistics, it's not going to be useful in 1v1 situations. It would have to be reworked. Actually, I think one of Zelda's customs is exactly what it should be. One of them is a fireball that detonates with a delay. Its current iteration has too much endlag for traps and setups, but if improved, I think it could seriously improve Zelda's game.

  • Being that it's her main projectile, it needs something outside of situational edgeguards. What I had in mind is that when she uses it and let's go of the control stick or B button, the fireball will stay there for 5 seconds or until she presses the B button again. It will explode if the time is reached or the button is pressed. She can use it in a similar way that Link uses Bombs.

  • Indeed! From this, her combo and edgeguard game increase drastically. Imagine this: you set Din's Fire low offstage as the foe tries to recover, prompting them to recover high. You're then free to punish however you please (easiest probably being Phantom Slash) because getting hit by that will garuntee that they can't come back (unless it's Villager or something).

  • Again, the people have no clue how to use her. In the right hands, her sour spotted moves have massive combo potential.

  • Dont even get me started on her downtilt, use it at just the right time, and the opponent wont grab the edge.

  • You're comparing a character who has to rely on massive reads and two semi-garunteed combos at best to everyone else. So yes, she looks pretty bad. Nayru's Love is okay, Din's Fire is awful, Farore's Wind, while strong, is predictable and laggy, and Phantom Slash is beyond predictable. Not to mention her light weight, her slow movement, and her tall stature, all making her easy to KO.

  • @SideAccont Thats relying on POTENTIAL to make a tier list.You often check tourney records and the comboes that youre most sure to land,not the POTENTIAL to do a perfectly timed thing.It it was that way,everyone would be S tier

  • Also,That thing of "only the player matters" is not right. It does matter,but if 2 same skilled players are playing,one is sheik,the other is pac-man,who do you think would most likely win?

  • Then you really need to battle against M, and i can garentee you'll take back those words. More over, i'd like to see variety aside from shieks and zero suits everywhere. If you wanna join in on using top tiers, das cool, but if thats all people ever use, then whats the point of 58 characters. '-'

  • i see links litterally everywhere, but kirbys are an ocassional oddity. and i never said she was top tier, but she certainly is not at the very bottom. I would say she's low mid tier, assuming the player is using her to her fullest potential.

  • Potential don't matter. If that were the case, than Roy or Ganondorf would be considered better. But that's not the case because of FLAWS

  • You still don't completely understand: assuming both players are using both their characters to their fullest capabilities, Zelda will lose most matches. If your friend is that good, then my only suggestion to you is to up your game.
