Why does Kid Icarus have 3 reps, 3 stages, lots of items and lots of music?

I thought small franchises weren't allowed to have so much represation.

    I thought they had 2 stages. Besides they were just going to have 2 characters and 1 who would be an alt BUT thanks to small spare time he got bumped to full playable.

    The 3DS version has the Reset Bomb Forest stage and Fire Emblem is extremely popular in Japan.

    In my opinion, Kid Icarus only has 2 reps, because Dark Pit was supposed to be a costume, not a character. And plus he's a clone so I think there are only 2 reps.

    But even though Sakurai loves Pit, he doesn't want to do a sequel. Sakurai owns not only Pit, but Kirby, Link, and other franchises.

    Or maybe franchise relevance doesn't matter and Sakurai picked all the Mario, Pokemon and FE characters because they'd be good characters. Also we'd have more Animal Crossing, DK and Pikmin characters if it did matter.

    The most popular franchise is Mario. There are a lot of games based on Mario which makes me super annoyed, but that doesn't mean I don't hate Mario. I just think that Nintendo should take a break from Mario franchises, and focus on others like the Legend of Zelda. And with the NX is coming out soon, I'm not sure if they will make another Mario game.
