Either franchise relevance matters or...

Sakurai picked all the Mario and Pokemon characters because they'd be good fighters. What do you think?

    Pokemon and Mario have many good Smash eligible characters, FE too. Franchise relevance doesn't matter IMO, just look at Duck Hunt, ROB and G&W, the three come from DEAD franchises.

    Franchise relevance should matter. At the end of the day, Smash Bros. is a series about Nintendo characters coming together and fighting each other, so the roster should accurately reflect the success Nintendo's franchises. More important/successful franchises (Mario, Zelda, PKMN) should have more reps than dead/dying/stagnant/generally unsuccessful franchises (Fire Emblem).

    That being said, the only 3rd party reos that should be allowed in Smash should be those with a huge history with Nintendo or at least those who have had recent, non-spinoff games on Nintendo platforms (Bayonetta, Sonic, Megaman, Pac-man).

    Fire Emblem Franchise: Individual entries have generally been praised, and the series as a whole has been praised for its gameplay, and it is cited as the origin of the tactical role-playing genre. The game series is highly popular in Japan so i don't see why they shouldn't have more reps. End of the day franchise relevance has never mattered and will continue not to matter
