    The thing to remember about kiddies, is that they generally have bigger eyes than adults and that they have plump "baby faces." As for the wing sitch, you could make them hollow (like hula-hoops) or transparent to give them that fairy look...unless you want them to look like weapons, to which I would suggest the BlazBlue aesthetic.

    I wish I could give you some input, but I really don't know. I wold try to quick sketch a concept for ya', but I'm stuck at school until 6:00, probably longer since my parental unit usually takes a while getting me home. I'm not sure what my 6:00 is relative to you, timezones and all that, but it's about 3 hours from now.
