Smash is officially done

According to a recent Famitsu article, Sakurai has officially ended development on Sm4sh and is now taking an extended vacation. Considering his healtth problems, he really deserves. I can't wait to see what he has up his sleeves next, but for now he should enjoy his time off. He really needs it.

  • But Nintendo can tell them that they need to continue with the game. Sakurai is only the director; the company can order him around as much as they want. It doesn't matter if they don't want to continue making content for Smash 4; ultimately, Nintendo decides if they continue. Not saying it will definitely happen, though. It's still just a rumor. I'm just saying that it's possible.

  • I didn't know you were in contact with the workers at Namco, I'd imagine if they put in the effort to get a job there they probably enjoy their job and like getting paid, but that's none of my business.

  • @GamerYTP Sakurai has done enough for Smash 4. He deserves the break that he's getting. Can we please not forget that Sakurai is also able to work on other titles too, he can't just be doing smash all the time.

  • I found these games to be excellent even before any of the DLC was released, so I am more than happy at their conclusion. Sakurai truly deserves that break, and I'm interested to find out what his next eventual project will be; Kid Icarus U? Kirby NX? A completely new IP? Time will tell, and I wish this fantastic game designer/director the best of luck in the future.

  • a "game of the year edition" of smash 4 with all dlc and MAYBE a few additional characters and stages would be a fantastic NX launch title. i'm not being selfish, just logical. nintendo knows smash sells gangbusters, so why not make an updated NX port? it wouldn't take nearly as much time as create as an entirely new game.

  • I can see there being a complete edition for the NX, but they said multiple times that DLC support for Smash 4 is done. So please stop asking for more content.

  • ok. Let me clear this. Sakuri DOES deserve his vacation for a LONG time. I'm perfectly fine if he doesn't work on Smash anymore. However, it does not mean smash should simply die off and not be a thing. Maybe another person could it alive somehow. If it's an HD port with all the DLC to the NX, that would be fine. I don't want to be selfish in anyway, but a port could keep it alive for the NX's lif

  • Okay, the NX port with the added content I'm okay with. It's when people ask for more characters for the Wii U/3DS versions that they act selfish.

  • Cause I really don't like the idea that SSB won't be a thing for the next 4-8 years.

  • I actually wouldn't mind it if the NX version didn't have any new characters. But, knowing that characters are a selling point, they probably will add at least one new character.

  • @Daniel I think you've forgotten to read my comments before posting. I'm pushing for Sakurai to not be involved with the NX port, or have very little involvement.

  • Poor Smash... I guess it's best left forgotten... For a long time... I a sense, we all need a break...
