Tips for Link?

Really enjoying the game, would like some help in learning Link. Where should I start?

  • We talking 1v1 play or just Link in general?

  • Learn to use your boomerang and bombs in sequences, this if done right will rack up good damage and can set up for good combos or KO's.

  • Choose Link's projectiles depending on the situation. The bow has high range and is fast, but charging takes it time, so use it against far away enemies (or don't charge to throw off enemies that want to get close). The boomerang is great for spacing, especially since it can be angled (press up or down while Link still holds it in his hand). And the bombs can rack up damage.

  • Make a habit of pulling out a bomb whenever you get launched some distance off stage. In the case you get edgeguarded or you simply cannot make it, the bomb will (hopefully) explode in your hands, knocking you up a bit and letting you use up-B again. Zair (press the grab button in the air) is also very useful. You can grab at ledges with it from a distance, making it another way to recover.

  • Two more tips: 1) Link's dash attack is a jump slash with some startup, so you have to press A relatively early for it to hit. 2) Link's Hylia Shield protects him from projectiles while he's standing, ducking or walking (not sprinting!). This can very useful when facing other projectile users, such as Mega Man.
