We shouldn't say Sonic Adventure 2 is good because...

it really isn't good. Its sucks. We act like this is good when only 1/3 of the game is fun and I really don't care if this isn't related to smash bros.

  • 3DS version of Generations sucked. the console ports were better. The only thing disappointing about the console version are the bosses. All of them are too easy. Even on hard mode they're still easy.

  • The PC version of Sonic CD had a special graphics card for the water in water levels.

  • The Chao gardens were even worse than Big the Cat's stages from Sonic Adventure 1! Who thought cheap, boring, 20-30 hour long knockoffs of Pokemon was a good idea!! Sure I'll just farm thousands of rings to pay for chao products, and do other tedious tasks just so I can collect all the emblems in the game!!

  • How is the Chao garden a pokemon knockoff?!?! In pokemon, you make monsters fight other monsters. In this you race them. Thats like comparing Pokemon to Yokai watch. They are nothing alike!

  • Also you have no soul if you don't think Chaos are cute!

  • Well, whatever. The Chao gardens are in my mind, one of the worst examples of padding in a Sonic game! And I've had to do things like buy better controls/moves in Sonic and the Secret rings, collect dinosaur eggs, played cheap 3rd person shooter levels in both Sonic Adventure games, deal with a poor emerald radar system in Knuckles/Rouge stages in Sonic Adventure 2!

  • @Captain M: If you dislike the Chao Garden in SA2, then I think it best if we just accept that we have very different definitions for the word, "fun." The Chao Garden is a feature you despise, while I sunk at least a good 40 hours into it (being conservative) while loving every minute. Let's just respect one another's opinions as being different but equally valid, and move on.

  • One thing I can't accept in your opinion is your choice of the word, "cheap." Whether this is a "knockoff of Pokemon" or not is debatable I suppose, but saying it's cheap is downright false. The different amount of unique animations, stat charts, affinitiy levels, personality quirks, and Chao designs show that Sonic Team threw a considerable amount of money and time into it.

  • In my opinion, I felt Generations was more superior in terms of game mechanics. Though very short to beat, the game displayed that they can make a great 3D & 2D Sonic game. Especially after Sega's recent outgoings with their mascot. I just loved the Classic Sonic segments, much better then Sonic 4.

  • Chao Garden is more of a pet simulation. And was added in for new players of the Sonic series. It was kind of a means to slowly introduce players to the game. And it was a nice little extra. I breed so many different Chao. My most loved was my Clear Chao, as I never knew such a breed existed.

  • Well, the Chao gardens were not something you would expect to be in a series about high-speed, platforming action! I think that it is a concept that the Sonic games should never return to.

  • There is something very wrong with Sonic Adventure 2 when a virtual pet simulation is going to take up much more of your gameplay time, than what most people expect to be adrenaline- filled platforming!

  • The only time I ever invested any real effort into the Chao garden, is when I wanted to collect the all the emblems in order to 100% complete Sonic Adventure DX.

  • The Chao garden was just an monotonous means to an end for me, and nothing more.

  • @Captain M: I sunk more than 220 hours into SA2B, the Chao Garden likely constituting roughly 40-50 hours of that time. The bulk of my time was indeed playing the main game, but the Chao Garden was an excellent supplement to give the game more replayability. I agree that Chaos should be optional (not award Emblems) but I have dearly missed them.

  • Your opinion actually reminds me of the Mega Man purists who instantly dismissed the Battle Network series because it was such a big departure. I'm not against change or new gameplay styles, so long as they're good. The Chao Garden wasn't what's expected of a Sonic game, but is "unexpected" synonymous with "bad"? I'd argue that they aren't.

  • I can of course respect your opinion though. The Chao Garden isn't for everyone and they shouldn't have made it necessary to get all 180 Emblems (or at least greatly reduced the amount of effort required to get the Emblems).

  • @James: Generations is my 3rd favorite Sonic game and probably my favorite game overall on any Seventh Generation console (Wii, PS3, 360). It was truly an amazing experience.
