    That was a good game. Not on Smash's level, but still enjoyable. It just wasn't the game it could have been.

    It was a great game BUT it had nothing to Nintendos SSB franchise. Their biggest issue was adding to many NEW characters instead of adding some of Playstations more iconic characters.

    Like Kage said, it was a great game on its own merits. The biggest problem with the game was actually it's constant comparison to SSB. Let me elaborate; the issue was twofold: content and accessability. SSB games have a ton of content so PSASBR having only 24 characters total and a complete lack of modes to play really hurt its replay value for some. The game needed more offline modes/unlockables.

    SSB is also accessible. While it certainly has a skill curve, SSB is essentially a game about ring-outs; even total n00bs can play the game and finish a 3-stock match in a reasonable amount of time. PSASBR is a game about landing a specific move in order to win, emphasizing hit confirms and combos to build meter. As a result, one must invest significantly more effort into PSASBR to appreciate it.

    Between the lack of overall content; the lack of iconic/recognizable characters; and the relatively steep learning curve; there were a lot of things keeping it from achieving mainstream success. While I personally enjoyed it a lot, most of my friends weren't really into it; most people aren't willing to invest 20-40 minutes in Training Mode to learn how to reliably build AP/learn hit confirms.

    i enjoyed it for what it was. i'm just miffed sony cancelled dlc for the game because of "underwhelming" sales. we were going to get abe from the oddworld games, dart from legend of dragoon, and a journey/ gravity rush stage. i'm sure they would have been great but nooo.
