Splatoon

I think this game is destined for eBay. It doesn't matter how great it is if the internet functionality sucks squid! I have had just about enough of Nintendo's bad job with online gaming. Smash moves in slow motion and this game kicks me offline then takes away points. Talk about insult to injury!

  • And actually Stubo, in a manner of speaking they are different for various people, because they rely on the players internet service with whom you are connected. So the old adage about 1 bad apple holds true. Rather than a single player having a bad experience we can all be dragged down.

  • I'm not sure exactly how, but I usually will be ok even when the lobby busts & people get dropped. When I'm in a match with lag issues I usually will just get hits that dont register right away against the guy lagging. As long as the lag doesnt build up on your end so bad you get actually out of sync with the rest of the entire lobby, you shouldnt DC. (least I dont think so)

  • So I'm pretty sure I've figured out the problem. During the morning and early afternoon I'm rocking out in the game. It's at night, when the numbers go up stateside that suddenly I'm unable to get a decent session in.

  • Its not like Gloden Eye on wii where one person rage quiting or DC'ing will sink the whole ship, thankfully. Glad you are atleast getting some games in, now. Its kind of drastic but maybe take note of the folks you see lagging the most & block them. This will let your system (hopefully) avoid them when its setting up matches.

  • Helping keep out the riff raff may help you have matches with folks who have more stable connections, Stateside. Good luck, hope you can keep getting in games. It truely is a great, unique fun shooter....but only if you can actually get the game going!

  • Thanks Mossy. Last night I was shooting paint that never showed, which was interesting. I'm thinking I'm just gonna play off hours.

  • One point I froze so long that when I came back 2 players appeared by me and destroyed me. My wife was watching and I quote, "Maybe I don't wanna try this". Up till then she'd been really interested in it.

  • ah, invisible ink.....that & getting splatted by "runaway ghost rollers" that get ya even after you splat the operator first, are both signs of lag (yours, theirs, someones) that built to the point that youre so inconsistent/out of sync with the lobby, that its going to run away from ya/drop ya. Use to really aggrivate me!

  • I love those invisible rollers! Very spooky! Seriously though, Nintendo needs to start using dedicated servers for their games. I know they're late to online gaming but these days most people don't play together in the same room. I wanna play with friends and family from all over the World.

  • Wow, yeah that's a bummer! I rarely get connection issues and I always have wondered why others have such a bad time with them. And yeah sometimes the lag is super annoyingand yep...it's usually at night!

  • Yeah so you can't really blame nintendo when you're playing with other people and you don't know if they have awful internet. It's probably just them

  • That is true Stubo, but, traditional serves just work better. But they cost more to run. And I know why the take points away from people to stop intentional dc's but again, it's hard to stay focused on improving my battle rank when I've lost as much as 70 points in a single day to this. My fix, no more night time play. I do love this game. It's great. Sad that the best part though is so buggy.

  • And thanks for the confirmation Inky. No if only my kids would take a nap so I could gain or lose points based on my skill. It's also sad but I never see friends online when I can play. But that's definitely not Nintendo's fault.

  • I'll look for you in the game during the day! Hehe^.^ silly kiddos, take a nap so daddy can get his splat on! My son is older now and 'outgrew' Nintendo...so it's all mine! XD

    Is Splatoon really good?

    Yeahs0
  • I had the same problems with Smash and sometimes with Splatoon. You need at least a 10mbps internet connection to avoid so many online problems. Consider a wired connection via a wii u ethernet adapter. I've DC'ed maybe 2 times in Splatoon since getting one last year.

  • Wow, that's odd you're having problems then. Maybe your router isn't up to specs? Other than that, I have no idea what would help, lol.

  • Did you DMZ your Wii U internet connection? I rarely have problems when playing Splatoon online in ranked matches. Lag appears to not happen that much in squad battles. I would guess that the lower ranks have mostly young players who are likely to have poor internet connections or poor internet connection setups.

  • That might be it Newbie. I tend to play against a lot of B- players. Of course, every time I've gotten close to ranking up I get dc'd, or so it feels. Anyway, I'm gonna stick to day time battle mode unless it looks really stable. Today I was pushing another player with my fully charged roller for 5-6 seconds. Guess who killed who!
