    Play Street Fighter. Ryu plays like a traditional fighting game character. Playing his game should help you memorize his inputs and strategies.

    Inputs is not the problem, it's his super short active frame on all his aerial attacks. And even if I master fastfalling with him to improve his neutral game, I still feel outranged by half the cast. Take C. Falcon for example: all his kicks outranges any of my attacks. Plus I feel Ryu's mobility is pretty meh.

    You're not supposed to play him like a Smash character. Besides, his specialty is ground combos.

    Again, SF is not the problem. I play many Fighting games, from SF4 to Blazblue. You can pretty much footsie everyone in SSF4 with Ryu's c.MK -> Hadouken. In Smash, he gets outfootsie by everyone, from Mario, to Zelda, to Zamus, and so on. Trying to get in will get you shieldgrabbed, and taking out defensive players is a nightmare because none of his throws KOs.
