Why do people play for fun and not fight anybody?

People play for fun and don't fight anyone, then when you attack someone everybody teams up on you. It makes me very angry.

  • You can get banned in smash bros? How?

  • A report option can be found tucked away in the results screen but it's a seemingly automated, robotic system. Too many reports can cause the reporter to be banned themselves. It's too loose and the idea that someone can get hit with a ban because someone got annoyed because they taunted after a KO, lost connection due to bad internet or plays too well is ridiculous.

  • I'm currently about 4-5 days into my ban. Not that I know for certain as Nintendo don't tell you anything. I've read it can be anywhere from a week to 10 days. In For Fun the punishments should not be the same as For Glory. Taunt parties are fun but you shouldn't be hit with a secretive ban just because another player doesn't like it. If you play competitively, go play Glory. Never false report.

  • I noticed before that you can get an idling disconnect by not selecting a character in the select screen within the time limit. That to me is a little harsh especially in For Fun. Can it not just auto select random if you haven't selected anyone. Too many of these disconnects, most of which I've had have been from others quitting or my internet went down but it adds up to a ban. It's broken.

  • And then you have those that report others. If it's down to an offensive name or Mii then yes but for play style, taunting, playing too aggressively, too competitively or beating someone's streak only to have the loser wait till the results screen to report them for absolutely nothing other than being a sore loser just isn't fair. Not knowing the why's and when's of this ban is annoying.

  • @Tails Reporting people for taunting is not what the report option is there for. If you come across taunters in For Fun then just battle them, don't report them. That's an abuse of the system. If you see them just move along. Offensive profile names or Miis then yes, that's what the report option is for. Automated reporting systems like this are totally busted relics.

  • Yea, battle them, then get 3v1'd. That's sooo fun. I will report them because taunt parties are not how the game was intended to be played, and if you choose to fight, you get teamed up on?? This is a fighting game last I checked, not a taunting screw-around fest. Even Sakurai agrees this isn't fun at all. Will link an article next post~

Taunt parties are part of the reason there's even a report button in the first place. Like I said, not how the game was meant to be played at all, if you want to do this in friend matches or offline, by all means go for it, but~

  • if you're going to ruin another players enjoyment by ganging up on him / her just because they chose to fight and try and have a good time with FFA in online, then they have every right to report you and get you banned from online play. Can't say it enough, it's no fun at all.

  • I really don't care if you want to screw around and taunt. But dont get angry when another player goes after someone and dont team up on one person. Its a form of bullying. And how is joining a game of smash and doing nothing fun anyway? Whats the point?

  • Then play for glory. It's simple. Don't throw around reports just because things aren't going your way.

  • Play for glory, good solution yea? Wrong. What if I want to play on stages that aren't boring and flat as well as no items? and don't respond with "oh just go play locally then" or "go play with friends" this shouldnt even be a problem yet it is. "throwing around reports" ill report people that aren't playing the game like its intended to be played

  • getting teamed up on in ffa lobbies is a pretty justified reason to report, heck the game even kicks you out for targetting another player (tho it barely works) and it bans you if you do it repeatedly, same with idling / taunt partying, but unfortunately people found a way to get around that which is mindlessly attacking nothing, hence where reporting comes in

  • so don't say i'm mindlessly reporting because nintendo clearly tried eliminating this problem by kicking people out of matches where they target other players or idle / taunt party. it already happened to you, after all. ;)

  • Yes it did but I haven't been given a reason why so I have to assume it was baseless. You expect to see this in CoD or something not in a For Fun mode in a childlike fighter. Also there is no reason for you to gloat as to my ban as just like me, you don't know the reasons behind it. I just hope that your rampant reporting doesn't see you banned also.

  • The only irritating thing about this smash ban is you get absolutely nothing in the way of a message. It will eventually lift but come on Nintendo. This isn't Youtube were randoms can throw their toys and yell foul and because it's automated reports are handled by robots. Miiverse for the most part isn't so why not smash? You can't constantly SD, idle, target one player or use offensive names.

  • That's fair but if four people want to mess about, key word four then why not. If you're being targeted fair enough, report that. Reporting randoms for something a person deems wrong other than what Nintendo state is an abuse of the system. You KO a player and they taunt - report, play to good/aggressively - report.. it's wrong.

  • I'll end on this. Without an actual reason behind bans of this kind, not so much as a message, I have to believe that it's baseless. No reason was given for it, no time frame, nothing. For a game like this we have a very, very strict reporting system that to me anyway seems a little out of place particularly in the casual modes. But I would say that given the ban.. I'll wait it out but for every..

  • other player out there beware that an automated report function is there and anyone can use it for the good of the game but that it can easily be abused due to personal reasons of a player and that to me anyway is totally and utterly wrong. For Fun and For Glory should not have the same set of penalties. When I'm back feel free to use me as a sandbag.
