History Behind Smash Characters: Kirby

Welcome to History Behind Smash Characters. There's a lot to talk about today. So much that it'll be split into 2 parts. So let's dive into Kirby's moveset and see what we've been missing all this time.

  • Copy Kirby has been known to suck in his enemies and copy their powers. Of course you could also spit them out. In Smash, it functions the same.

  • Flip Hammer In Kirby Super Star, Kirby could use Hammer in a fiery effect. In Smash 4, you can charge up Hammer for that effect, yet take recoil as you charge it. In Brawl, Kirby was meant to have this change but scrapped for unknown reasons.

  • Final Cutter This is based off the combo hit for Cutter in Kirby Super Star. In Smash, it functions the same. If you fall off Distant Planet's water current with this move, he will go into helpless mode.

  • Stone In Kirby, he could transform into a solid object to ignore damage and knockback from enemies. In Smash, it functions the same but the damage cap is 30%.

  • He can form into one of the following obects: The stone he normally transforms into A spiked ball A 100 ton weight Lip's garbage block from Panel De Pon A Thwomp. In Melee and Brawl, it's the Mario 64 design. In 4, it's the original design from Mario 3.

  • Ultra Sword This is one of the Ultra Abilities from Return to Dreamland. In that game, it could chop off wood to uncover secrets. Just like me with my research.

  • Jab This, along with the finisher, is based off an attack he uses as Fighter Kirby in Super Star.

  • Dash attack Based off his running attack with the Yo-yo ability. In Smash 64, it was a headbutt. In Melee, it was based off the Burning ability.

  • F-smash Based on Fighter Kirby's running attack in SS. Also forgot to mention his FS in Brawl was Cook Kirby.

  • Throws All throws are based off Suplex, except for up throw, which is based off Ninja.
