Why so much hate for FE characters?

Why do people hate on characters like Corrin and Lucina? They say "They take up slots" when Sakurai said there are no slots. So, why do people hate so much on FE characters.

    @Silvereye Again, if you have no problem with the character, why complain about the series from whence it came from? It literally does not matter and I don't understand why you're annoyed with it. Because of the "over-exposure"? Who cares? Does it effect your ability to play the game? Is it a hindrance of any kind? No, it's not.

    @Silvereye And yes, I actually would buy the DLC if there were 6 golden sun characters. I literally do not care about what IP they're from, new characters are new characters. New characters, well, bring something new to the table and add for a twist in gameplay. Also LOT of people complained about Corrin/Bayonetta, but still bought them anyway. I don't see why changing the IP would affect it.

    The series matters because the character chosen is more desirable if it's one you have a connection with. Maybe you personally would happily buy 6 Pikmin characters, but I'm sure many people wouldn't. Again, I want newcomers from a variety of established IPs, not just 4. Once again you've neglected to give any reasoning for why Corrin should be in over any other character.

    For example, the characters I regularly use in SSB4 are characters I actually like from their respective series. By your logic, the roster could have 20 reps from a series and you wouldn't care as long as they bring something new to the table. More people would have known/cared about characters from bigger IPs like StarFox, Metroid, or DK; why put Corrin in over them?

    If it's solely a shameless marketing ploy, StarFox Zero, Metroid Fed. Force, and Zelda Twilight Princess HD are all coming out this year; a newcomer from any of those games would have been more desirable to more people. The hype of seeing a newcomer is intensified when it's a character you actually know/care for; compare Mega Man reactions to Shulk's for example.

    personally it makes since to me to put Corrin inside for more advertising towards the new game, and to expose FE more since it really isnt all that known, although i do have to agree with you being to many FE Reps. its kinda hard to say because if you only took robin in put him in smash the people would have cried for lucina the same way they did for Crome

    and yeah i agree with you that they should have added more towards other franchises such as golden sun and earth bound. especially starfox since its getting a new game and F-zero because of the fact i feel it would just make it more instresting

    @Subzero: I'd argue that Robin is all we needed from Awakening. Lucina is exactly the same as Marth moveset-wise aside from the tipper gimmick being removed from her attacks. If she wasn't added, it wouldn't have been a significant loss in the slightest. I thank you for actually understanding what I'm saying here though.

    Fire Emblem CONSTANTLY has a new release to be excited about that the fans are going to want to see represented in the new Smash Bros. That's why we end up with so many characters. They might stick around or they might get swapped out for new characters next time. It's that simple.

    @RJSJ no you didn't state that. And Lon'qu isn't even in the Smash. If you play Awakening it's obvious there's a huge difference between the two characters as well.

    @Silvereye I think you highly underestimate the hype for Fates. You make it sound like it's not that desired when it really *really* is. And again, IP REALLY shouldn't matter. I don't know why you are so hung up on it. Maybe you're too closed-minded.

    Also, as I've said multiple times, Lucina is only in the game becuase she was originally going to be an alt. for Marth but Sakurai made her her own character because they had all the assets and it'd take very little time. You really just got a free character, so don't complain about Lucina being in the game, at least Chrom's not in it.

    no i did not state the sword stab part but that is what lon'qu say'ri, chrom, marth, lucina, inigo, roy and ike do in their games. so putting in one so similar is pointless

    I think it would have not been bad if Lucina stayed as a alt of Marth and Roy did not returned 3-4 FE reps seems reasonable enough.

    every fire emblem character is a protagonist. if smash is going to have so many characters from a franchise that is much less popular than nintendo's other famous IPs then shouldn't there be a villain FE character rather than tons of protagonists? mario, zelda and even pokemon which have numberous representatives still have a villain character in the mix (mewtwo is based heavily on the movie)

    @Will: Did you just imply that I'm close-minded? Because I disagree with you and actually use real facts to support my assertions? You still haven't given 1 reason for Corrin being a good inclusion over any other character. If I'm underestimating the hype for Fates, then use actual statistics to support that claim; anecdotal evidence is one of the weakest forms of arguing, and you're using it.

    I'm certain Fates will sell rather well (probably break 2 million at least) but that's not anywhere near DK, Zelda, Pokemon, or Mario levels of success. So I'll ask you again: please give some actual reasons why Corrin was a good addition over other Nintendo characters besides "he's cool" (subjective) or "it's advertisement" (StarFox, Metroid, and Zelda could've used that advertisement too).

    @Garnish: Getting new releases to hype the fans means little when said fanbase is so relatively small and about half the games weren't even released outside of Japan. Again, prior to Awakening FE was extremely niche and post-Awakening it's more well-known but by no means mainstream. FE may possibly achieve mainstream success eventually, but as of right now it hasn't.
