What is Wrong With My Gamecube Controller?

So I just got a Gamecube Controller yesterday, and the controller's not letting me go left. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    you most likely put the controller into the port while the stick was in the right position. this makes it so the system reads the right position as being the neutral position meaning the actual neutral position is read as left. just take it out and put it back in while the stick is neutral and it should work fine. hope this helps.

    I did not put the controller in that way. I just put it in normally. The only times the game thought I was doing something when I actually wasn't were at the character select screen. And that time I was moving left. The same problem I had with the analog stick applied to the d-pad and c-stick.
