You CAN meteor smash with Corrin, it's just really hard to land it without them just being knocked back to the side. It's sort of like Toon Link's spike. Maybe when they're attacking you when you use the down air, they can get spiked because you flinch and stop doing the attack that makes them go down with you. Corrin's down air does have a meteor effect, so it might work.
