    The fact that the series is about Nintendo Superstars coming together and fighting each other. That doesn't mean less popular franchises shouldn't get representation, but that in no way means that a series that got 1 good game after years of failure should have more reps than a series that has been successful years sinces its creation and is a legend among the gaming industry.

    Whether Sakurai said it or not doesn't matter. He said that he pays ample attention to accurately representing characters in Smash, yet still insists on making Ganondorf a garbage tier Falcon clone. He said he wouldn't add in fighting game characters, then adds in Ryu. And supposedly, he said there wouldn't be clones in this game, only to add in 4.

    Just because Sakurai says something doesn't make it true. He's nothing but a filthy liar who thinks he can treat his consumers like they're not important a not receive any criticism and hate. He's also the incompetent dev that left tons of glitches in the game and released "free" DLC that corrupted many people's save files.

    Cloud marks a period of time when FF left Nintendo platforms. Even worse, FF7 remake is exclusive to the PS4. A character with such an anti-Nintendo history has no business being in a game full of Nintendo superstars, especially when his inclusion is basically advertisement for a game exclusive to Nintendo's biggest enemy.

    I have the same issue with Ryu. His franchise left Nintendo, and SF5 is a PS4 exclusive game. As much as I like Ryu & Cloud, I hate that they're essential free advertisement for Sony.

    And people will also probably buy FF7 remake as a result of Cloud's Smash appearances. That wouldn't be a problem if the game was going to be on the NX, but it's not. FF7 remake is a PS4 exclusive. Cloud appearing in Smash is more or less free advertisement for the game, which is free advertisement for Sony.
