The advertisement? This is a game based on advertising the franchise of each character in it. Like it or not, FE is growing up the ranks as a minor Nintendo icon, it deserves the relevance.

Denzel speaks the truth. Cloud was...unexpected, but kinda hype for me. Bayonetta was also...unexpected, but also kinda hype (not quite as hype as Cloud though imo). Corrin was just unnecessary and further showcased the bias FE received this game. FE is nowhere near as popular as people claim it is; its best selling game has sold less 2 mil. The series already had 5 reps; why did we need a 6th?

FE needed advertisement? StarFox, Metroid, and Zelda are all getting new games this year too (SF Zero, Fed.Force, & TP HD) and they have proven to be more successful in the past in addition to not already having newcomers in SSB4. FE characters are unique? Half of them share similar movesets; all of them even share the same ↓ B for some reason aside from Robin. They're all cool? That's subjective.

The point is, there's no legitimate reason for there to be this many FE reps in SSB4. Marth, Ike, and Robin made sense. Lucina was added last-minute instead of being a skin; a decision I disagree with, but whatever. Roy gets added later to appease Melee fans; another decision I disagree with but it is what it is. Corrin is the last straw though; there's no reason for Corrin to be in over others.

If you're personally hyped for Corrin then by all means continue being hyped; I'm not trying to insult FE or its fanbase here. I'm just saying that the series as a whole doesn't warrant such favortism in SSB yet. Perhaps by SSB5 it'll be a massively successful series (doubtful, but possible), but until then there should be more attention given to other fanbases too (DK, StarFox, Metroid, etc).

The other franchises don't need more reps, period. It's the people who want more reps for those franchises but there's no need for more reps for already popular franchises but a franchise who it's becoming popular worldwide for the first time, this is the best chance, Smash is the biggest Nintendo advertisement after all

I don't care for their hate of Corrin nor do i care for their logic, but be reminded that Smash is merely about advertising every character on the roster so addressing that one specific character is pointless. Like it or not, FE is apart of Smash now, and it's used Awakening + Smash to skyrocket in popularity. Sure you may want other franchise relevance but taking it out on FE gets you nowhere.

Silvereye, if you tell me whenever Sakurai said "Smash's roster focuses on how relevant each individual franchise is" then by all means I'll disagree with Corrin. But LAST TIME I CHECKED he said "Smash is for Nintendo acharacters (and guests) to duke it out" NOTHING ABOUT FRANCHISE RELEVANCE THERE! It's like you're saying there's too many Nintendo characters IN A GAME MEANT FOR NINTENDO CHARACTERS

But don't worry there's just like………SIX Fire Emblem out of the FIFTY EIGHT fighters in this game you'll get over it.

@Samuel: Xenoblade Chronicles is "becoming popular for the first time" too; does it deserve 4 newcomers? Again, the series isn't that popular; selling less than 2 million units after 3+ years on the market isn't exactly a runaway success. FE is still niche and will likely stay niche. Not saying niche franchises shouldn't get attention, but moderation is needed.

@Z: FE has been a part of SSB since Melee, what's your point? FE gets criticised in SSB4 because it highlights the inequality among the roster. FE is so niche that the hype for Corrin was likely confined to just a couple million people, whereas Wolf, K.Rool, or Sylux would have generated a lot more excitement due to sheer recognizability.

@Vennek Jr: You are using a fallacy known as "appealing to authority" in which you default on using an authoritative figure (in this case Sakurai) in an attempt to make your argument seem more valid. If Sakurai personally felt similarly to you in SSB4, then all you've proved is I disagree with his logic this time around; it doesn't make you right about anything.

If you look at past games (particularly Brawl), franchise relevance was represented rather nicely on the roster. While some still had less reps than they should have, there were a plethora of newcomers given to established franchises. DK, StarFox, Metroid, Pokemon, Earthbound, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Zelda, and Mario (if you count Wario here) got newcomers.

There was far less complaining with Brawl's roster because the newcomers made sense. Pretty much every franchise that was on the previous roster got something new. SSB4 on the other hand, only added newcomers to 4: Mario, Pokemon, KI, and FE. I don't understand how you or anyone else can defend this; how is it better to only add newcomers to a small handful of IPs instead of several?

While I personally think Mario has 1 too many reps (Rosalina was unnecessary imo), I can at least recognize that Mario is the most successful and iconic game series of all time; people can at least recognize Rosalina or Bowser Jr. Fire Emblem is extremely niche though; it'd be like if Pikmin had 4 newcomers added just because the director happened to like the series a lot. Would that be fair?

02/21/2016 5:11 AM ·Spoilers
Following that logic we can think you're saying that every/only "successful" franchise should have 6 reps (6 because Mario have 6 reps) and the least popular or niche franchises should have 1, maximum 3 or even none reps at all.... ok ._____.

02/21/2016 6:39 AM ·Spoilers
No, following my logic SEVERAL IPs should get newcomers, not just 4. Priority should be given to IPs with more success, but I explicitly stated I feel niche IPs should get reps in moderation. I used Brawl as an example to showcase how I feel the roster should be expanded: 1 or 2 newcomers per series. Yeah Pokemon got a lot, but it lost 2 so it kinda balanced out. Read everything I typed again.

Something that's extremely popular like Mario, Pokemon, or Zelda can have 5-7 reps. Mildly successful IPs like Metroid, StarFox, or Kirby should have 3 or 4 reps. Niche IPs like Earthbound, Pikmin, Xenoblade, or Fire Emblem should have 1-3 reps. This would make the most logical sense, as the IPs that are more well-known are more likely to generate hype to a broader number of people.

That said, these numbers can change as time progresses and more SSB games come out. I'm all for having niche IPs get representation, but there needs to be moderation. Cuatom Robo, for example, could easily have 6 unique characters in SSB. I would never ask for that though because I realize it's too niche; most people don't care about that IP.
