I don't think Captain Toad should be in Smash anymore.

Just kidding! He'd be great for Smash! And the only reason he can't jump is because his backpack's too heavy, so they could make him jump in Smash!

    Captain Toad's defining feature is that he can't jump. If they make him jump in Smash, then he loses what sets him apart from other Toads, so you might as well put any generic Toad in the game. In which case, why even bother with Captain Toad?

    Ya, Cap'n Toad not jumping is too important to the character I wouldn't give up on a regular Toad though. See SMB2 for inspiration for a jumping Toad (the words "jumping toad" do not refer to a frog in this case)

    Captain Toad CAN jump IIRC, it's just very low jumps. You could just make his jumps miniscule to stay faithful to his character.

    Is "not jumping" really any more a defining characteristic for Captain Toad as "not ducking" is for Mega Man? Because I got news for you: Mega Man can duck in Smash.

    What your saying is kind of like the Mario Maker deal to where he can jump, as he's a playable character in that game via Mystery Mushrooms, but I don't wanna sound off topic by talking about a different game, I'm sure they can work around having ways he can jump to stick with the consistence of what's possible for him to travel up in his own game, I'm sure they can avoid that.

    They could put Captain Toad in the next Smash Bros. He should jump but jump lower because of his backpack being heavy and make reference to Toad can't jump higher than Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.

    Mario Maker also isn't a canon too, because Captain Toad is a playable character via Mystery Mushrooms and he can jump, so I'm sure they can go with the SMM deal if he ever gets in Smash.
