similar to wii party u and mario party 10 except it's some people punching and kicking each other.

  • i also think melee is competitive but smash 4? no way. in smash 4, you cant wavedash or l-cancel, and foxs down b was nerfed a lot. smash 4 also has items and big battlefield and the great cave offensive.

  • Well if it's not competitive, why does it have a giant following in the competitive scene? Answer me that.

  • it doesnt. i dont know what youre talking about. melee and street fighter has a massive competitive scene. dont think smash 4 does. like, at all. probably 1 or 2 people out there like to pretend its competitive but that about it.

  • No, Smash 4 is pretty well liked by fighting game pros. Not as much as Melee, but they still like it well enough. So no matter what you say, Smash will never be considered a party game. It will always be a fighting game, just a different type of fighting game.

  • if smash 4 is anything but a party game, its a platformer. i actually dont know why some people like to take this game so seriously, because well, its just not serious. in any way. at all. whatsoever. just being honest.

  • It's not a platformer. A platformer has you going from point A to point B. It can be linear or nonlinear, but your goal is still to reach your destination. Smash's goal is to defeat your opponent like a fighting game. It does have platforming elements, but it's goal is still to pound your opponent senseless.

  • i have to agreed with Lars its more party game look at the mode for fun its not serious and using items doesn't belong in fighting games or the stage split in 4 pieces its really party game with fighting elements

  • Sigh... look, it's your opinion that it's a party game, it's my opinion that it's a fighting game. Can we come to agree to disagree?

  • Any game(not just Video Games) that can have multiple players with winners and losers is competitive. The N64 game, Melee, Brawl, Sm4sh, Mario Kart, and Scrabble are all competitive. Tech and Game mechanics don't effect that, just as long as there are winners and losers.

  • Smash 4 is in fact competitive. Look it up

  • It's technically a party game, however the genius of this game is that you can also play it as any other competitive fighting game. So, it can be both.

  • It's both casual and competitive...

  • Not all platformers, Shooters, and RPGs are the same, so why do fighters need to be?
