    It's hard to say; both companies ignore the franchises I care about and milk the same ones as much as possible. Nintendo has Pikmin, Advance Wars, SSB, Pokemon, StarFox, Xenoblade, Sin & Punishment, Golden Sun, and Custom Robo. Unfortunately, none of those IPs get half the recognition they deserve aside from SSB, Pokemon, and arguably Xenoblade.

    SEGA has Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter, NiGHTS, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Billy Hatcher, Skies of Arcadia, Burning Rangers, and of course the Blue Blur himself. Sadly, none of those get ANY attention nowadays aside from Sonic. If this were a SEGA Genesis vs. SNES discussion, I'd say the Genesis wins due to Sonic 2 alone. Overall though, it's hard to pick one over the other.

    I'll say this: Sonic > anything Nintendo has ever put out, but Nintendo > SEGA overall due to greater variety. While it does bother me that Mario, Zelda, and recently Animal Crossing are getting SOOO much attention (franchises I couldn't care less about), it at least makes sense from a business perspective. I'm a diehard Sonic fan; so my stance is obviously skewed in SEGA's favor here.

    a better,fair question should've been sega genesis-dreamcast vs nes-gamecube,sega in its prime. it would make the debate more interesting. if we're talking about the sega of today,cause u know the answer is too obvious. just saying.

    @Timid: I'd even argue THAT's kinda unfair since the Genesis was the only truly successful console SEGA ever had. Game Gear enjoyed modest success but was always firmly behind the Game Boy (think DS vs PSP; PSP was by no means a failure but was nowhere near the DS's success). The Saturn was never any significant competition for the N64/PS1. Master System was never a threat to the NES.

    While the Dreamcast had an unprecedented launch for its time, it lost a lot of its momentum once the PS2 came out in late 2000. By the time the GameCube arrived in 2001, the Dreamcast was about to go belly-up. I suppose you could compare the first year of the DC to the first year of the GC, but console to console there's no comparison; Sonic Adv1&2 even got ported to GC, so there's no debate here.
