A few Luigi matchups based on experience.

I've been using Luigi for a long time, so here's what I think about his best/worst/even matchups.

  • His best matchup is against Ryu. We all know Luigi is a combo based fighter, and Ryu is at the perfect weight for all of your combos to work on him up until 70%. Plus, he has only one (sort of one) projectile. Yours can cancel it. Other characters he does quite well against are Diddy Kong, Bowser, Mario, and Ganondorf.

  • His worst matchup is against Jigglypuff. Jiggs can go offstage with no problem and take advantage of your unsafe recovery quite well. Plus, your combos stop working very early. Your SJP can be punished with Rest if all goes wrong. Other bad matchups include Marth, Falco, Meta Knight, and Rosalina.

  • As for even, there are few. Most "even" matchups are 55:45 or closer, so there's almost no definite even matchups for Luigi.

  • Jigglypuff is no such threat to me with Luigi, actually. Sure, air attacks are really the only thing her players ever do, but even still, it's easy to get around sometimes. She's as light as a penny, too. Super Jump Punch can easily punish Rest if missed.

  • I mean the types of Jigglypuff who knows exactly what they're doing. They can turn Luigi into cream. ...Unless the Luigi is just as good. Then the match is really just 30:70. Not TOO much of a disadvantage.

  • How would a Luigi vs. Sheik match stack up?

  • Judging from Boss (the Luigi main I look up to) and his matches against Sheik, I'd say 35:65.

  • I gotta get better with Yoshi, honestly. Seeing as how his apparent double jump and Egg Roll flaws leave openings for opponents, I need to practice more if I ever hope to do better with him than how I am now.

  • Why not throw out a N-air as you're jumping?

  • I often use N-air just to push people away from me. Not much of a combo set-up or anything. And besides, B-air and U-air are more or less the way-to-go KO moves in the air.

  • No, I mean to protect your recovery.

  • Oh! I don't use that to recover. It doesn't even give any flight distance like Egg Throw. I always use double jump + Egg Throw to recover, no matter the situation.

  • I mean during the jump. You'll do a rising N-air.

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me!

  • You have Melee, right? If so, try an advanced Yoshi tactic called Parrying.
