Match Analysis: Mewtwo vs Lucario

Hey everyone! Sorry for taking a while to post the next Match Analysis. Been really busy as of late. Even went to a Tourney. Anyway, for Pokemon's 20th anniversary we're doing a Pokemon battle! Mewtwo vs Lucario. Who do you think has the advantage in this Match Up? And why? Let everyone know in the comments!

  • Now, that's interesting one. Mewtwo definitely outranges Lucario. While he has Aura Sphere, Mewtwo has his own projectile in Shadow Ball. Mid-range Lucario only outranges him with non-grab hitbox of Force Palm. And this one comes out slow. All his tail moves have big hitboxes: Tilts, Uair and Bair. He's also way more agile. Lucario is pretty slow, while Mewtwo got a fair bit of speed boosts.

  • In patches. His frame data seems a bit better too. His tilts are generally faster (except Lucario's Utilt, which is a great move), his Up Smash starts WAY earlier than lagfest called Lucario smashes and due to Lucario's height doesn't whiff. His Fair outspeeds all aerials except Dair, but is generally stronger. Mewtwo can also use Lucario's projectiles against him. Deadly especially if Lucario...

  • is at high %, due to his aura. Speaking of which, this is Lucario's saving grace. He is hard to kill due to being relatively heavy and having arguably the best recovery move in Extremespeed. It can recover from lowest corner of screen easily at high %. Lucario can chase offstage all day, stall out his recovery with wall clings and makes Mewtwo's also great recovery pale in comparison.

  • But this one is also hard to edgeguard. Teleport is hard to punish, but if he's a bit too far to use that to recover, he can use his Side B, double jump and wall jump to mix up his recovery too. With his aura, Lucario can KO at ridiculously low percents. Especially considering Mewtwo's terrible weight. Bair and Uair are his best finishers, because they are relatively fast and with aura can...

  • Well Mewtwo does have a reflector and disable. As wll as a better projectile. However Lucario does have more recovery as well as rage + his aura can make mewpoop fly. Especially with Mewpoop being 2nd lightest character.

  • Mewtwo because he's tougher.

  • I believe that Mewtwo, so far, has the upper hand, because of better frame data, having a projectile AND a reflector, having some high knockback attacks to make Lucarios weight a little meaningless, as well as a kill throw with up throw. As long as Mewtwo plays safe, Lucario can't really touch him.

  • Also the fact that Lucario's recovery CAN be a bit predictable. While Mewtwo's is hard to punish.

  • I guess it kinda equals them out on recovery department. By Lucario's recovery being unpredictable I mostly meant he can even double jump far away from the stage or wall cling and drop down, still having a jump, basically get to the stage from anywhere with that extremespeed. It's so fast, it might be predictable sometimes, but hard to catch anyway. But yeah, Mewtwo's can be even trickier.

  • But if it is on a stage like Smashville or Battlefield, where there is no wall to cling on. Lucario mostly goes for the ledge. And if he misses, chances are, that's a stock. Depending on how it plays out.

  • Well the general consensus seems to be that Mewtwo has this, if by a little.
