Discussion: Why Spammers (and More) Exist and Why They Won't Leave Soon.

Smash is usually prized for it being so different from other fighting games. However, with freedom of movement, single button inputs, and certain mechanics, it will actually begin to reward players who either play one character or begin to spam one move.

  • No, spamming the same move over and over in this game almost always just stems from an overall lack of knowledge/understanding of the game. Be it people not knowing how to properly utilize the rest of a character's moveset or from people not knowing how to deal with particular moves. There's virtually always a way around it, and spam comes with a lot of disadvantages for the spammer.

  • Well, spammers love to tick off salty people. Who knows, they might know tech and may be better than the others? Just saying that the spammish characteristic just covers up all the good stuff about the person.

  • I'm not saying it's them, it's the game. To start off, Smash has a far more forgiving system. Most preferred spamming moves are usually safe on whiff, if not for Perfect Shields, Counters, or Reflects, this aspect would actually pretty game breaking in 1-v-1.

  • Uhh, a TON of things are very punishable on whiff. If you can't deal with spam without relying on counters and the like (which themselves are some of the most spammed moves out there), then you're doing something wrong. That's not the game's fault.

  • If Ryu's LV3 (or any) Shoyruken is safe on some instances, something's wrong. And every character essentially has a counter through the Perfect Shield, it's a parry mechanic.

  • Shoryuken is virtually never safe on shield (not just powershield) or whiff, not even with proper input, unless you're too far away. Shoryuken has no landing lag, so it's a matter of catching Ryu before he lands, and there's time enough for that in most cases.

  • Spammers can be beaten. They're predictable, and people will learn how to fight them eventually, though they will always be annoying.
