What is Blast Processing? It is just the name of a silly marketing ploy which has been gone for years, even though it was said to have existed on the Sega Genesis back in the 90s. But to this day, Sega still does one thing that "Nintendon't"... by letting the majority of the Sonic fanbase regress themselves to the level of laughable immaturity.

  • It was a phrase for the genesis having a faster cpu. The genesis had a faster CPU then the snes. But the snes had more ram, Better sound and color palete. And the snes had expansion chips that could be built in to the cart.

  • Blast processing actually refers to something that developers could do to temporarily expand the graphical capabilities of the Genesis.

  • @Star and Gestermek That I can agree upon. At least plenty of the games on both consoles were enjoyable in the long run.

  • Gestersmek your actually wrong. I think you might be confused by a quote about sonic being able to use blast processing (better cpu) to allow the gameplay to be fast and at a smooth framerate.

  • The whole concept was a cash grab, though. They wanted to use hip buzzwords to make it sound like a superior console.

  • It actually was not a "Buss word" it was just a marketing phrase to say the genesis had a better CPU then the snes. But the genesis was superior in processing things fast but could not process color or sound as well as the snes can. Also the snes had expansion chips developers can put in carts. Like the FX chip added a second cpu making the snes be one of the first devices capable of dual cores.

  • In other words, the FX chip didn't need to require the use of any CD or 32X add-ons, nor did the Donkey Kong Country trilogy as a whole.

  • Actually it is a buzzword, since they never explained what "blast processing" was and they tried to make the Sega's superior processing power sound better than it was.

    Yeahs1
