If God doesn't exist, then why does science say that the universe has a beginning? A beginning that supposedly came from nothing. Isn't something that came from nothing against scientific belief?

  • Something else could've created the start, actually. That's the point where AAAAANYTHING is possible no matter what.

    Yeahs1
    Played
  • *facepalm*

    Yeahs0
  • Applejack, isn't the Big Bang typically refered to as the beginning?

    Yeahs1
  • I came lel. (bless the day i decided to call myself Something)

    Yeahs1
  • God is like the Big Bang: we can't definitively prove either one

    Yeahs2
  • True. However if physics were off just by the slightest bit, the universe wouldn't exist either. Too much gravity: the big bang wouldn't have been able to expand into the universe. Too little gravity: stars, planets, and the like wouldn't have been able to form.

    Yeahs2
  • You forgot about the part where we, humans, adapted to this universe, or more locally, our environment. Ever hear of the Anthropic Principle?

    Yeahs0
  • Yes, I have.

    Yeahs1
  • I needed to reread some of it though.

    Yeahs1
  • What was one of the first arguments against the church? Heliocentrism vs. Geocentrism, right? Well, modern science makes both of those true, you know? (It's not just a gap. It's a dead-end)

    Yeahs1
  • ...Did you just say Geocentrism and Heliocentrism are BOTH true?

    Yeahs0
  • Yes, they're both true.

    Yeahs1
  • Every point of matter can be the center of the universe. This might be difficult to understand, because we don't exactly know how big the universe really is. Well, let's just say it's infinite and we you're the center. If the universe was infinite, then you would see that it's infinite in every single direction, so would the sun and the earth.

    Yeahs2
  • Now, let's say that the universe is finite. There would have to be a center, right? No, there still isn't a center. The universe is 4d and what we see is 3d. To put something like this in perspective, let's have an ant walk across the two-dimensional surface of a sphere. If the ant were to continue it's path in a straight line, it would eventually end up back up where it would start. The location…

    Yeahs2
  • doesn't matter; the outcome is still the same. So every point on the surface of a sphere is the center. Scale the example up an extra dimension and you have our universe.

    Yeahs2
  • Well, I was thinking of a different definition of geocentric. But yes, I understand what you mean. Welp, I'll be off.

    Yeahs0
