    You can message and facetime people over Wi-Fi (but they must have an Apple device aswell) the iPod dosent support 4g or cellular connectivity just Wi-Fi, you have to have an Apple ID to use iMessage and facetime, if you want to send a message just add your friends email in contacts and a message bubble will come up.

    No problem but note that the person you want to message has to own an ipod, ipad, mac or iPhone, just grab there iMessage email (Whatever apple ID email is used) and you can message over Wi-Fi.

    NO the person who you wants to send a message to requires an apple id, any you are required an apple id, get the apple id email adress from the person who is registered with imessage, yes you can use any email to create an apple id if thats what your on about.
