A few things I have to say about this game's Lost World, first off this feels a little less special when you discover it, I mean in the last game and two console games they were a bit of a surprise, yet because the entire plot of this game revolves around a contest to find it, it's less exciting when you reach it as you know there is one in the game as soon as you start, the only way you wouldn't

know is if you never bothered to read the story to see why Dixie and Kiddy are going on this adventure, I mean in games like DKL 2 you discovered it on your own, and as for the console games, in DKC 2 you weren't told there was one until you beat the game normally after beating the first final boss, and in DKC 3 even though you were told in a brothers bears cabin the text went by fast and you

had to do some progressing through the game as well as exploring on DKC 3's unique world map to learn about it, so at the very least in the two console games including this game's counterpart on the SNES you actually had to play the games themselves in order to know there was a Lost World in the game, and DKL 2 you don't even get any hints, if you never played DKC 2 before you pretty much have to

discover that there's one in the game on your own as there's no hints or anything telling you it's there, so unless you played DKC 2 and already know that DKL 2 is an alternate DKC 2 for the Game Boy, you pretty much have to find out by accident or look up that there's one in a guide. I mean one of the special things about the Lost World in previous Rare DK games back in the day was discovering

them on your own or learning there was one through those in-game means that told you one was in the game, it's why people would do everything they could in a game like DK 64 trying to see if there was one in the game, even though there isn't one it's the fact that trying to discover or learn through in-game means to discover one being one of the major exciting things about them, problem with

making the main plot of the game center around finding one like this game does is that it takes away all of that impact of finding it, because you know one is in the game before you even start playing it. Ok onto some of the actual levels in this game's Lost World, keep in mind this 3DS Virtual Console release is my first time ever playing DKL III and everything in it, so far I've cleared the

first two Lost World levels 100% only, so I haven't played much, I will say the pipeline bobsled/toboggan level (forgive me for not remembering the names of these levels but as I said this is my first time ever playing DKL III) is hard but pretty short compared to the console version of these types of levels but it's expected that these type of levels are hard, especially if you don't use

restore points, as I've discovered as short as the level is there's barely any room for error, you'll only want to use your Kong to take an extra hit if you're close to the end and are good at avoiding the buzz bee enemies, but you'll only have trouble with the DK Coin on the path as that's the only thing skippable if you continue going to the next bobsled/toboggan section in the level and even

then getting the DK Coin is easy and obvious that you'd have to intentionally choose to skip it, as for the bonus rooms you'd probably only have trouble finding the second one due to needing to find a hidden barrel to reach it and even then it's right next to the first bonus barrel not to mention even if you lose either bonus level it warps you in the same spot close to both of them making it easy

to retry both of them until you win both of them and both are equally as short, not to mention these two are the only bonus barrels in this level and they're just a manually moveable barrel canon over a small ledge that will shoot you back up to said barrel which across said ledge is the level goal just a few feet away from the bonus barrels and manually moveable barrel, as for the second

Lost World level I think named after I think one of the barrel enemies as it had an enemy name and Karnage in it's name, well despite it being the second level is actually easier than the first level, not beginning of the game easy, but certainly no harder than a level you'd play at the middle of the normal game, and if it was named after the barrel enemy they only really gave me trouble twice in

the Lost World's second level due to the lack of jumping space on the rope they were placed on, but despite the level name they're really not that much of a nuisance other than maybe twice, not to mention I don't get the difficulty curve since the second level is easier than the first despite this being the Lost World it's odd since traditionally it's supposed to be the game's most difficult set

of levels in the game yet at least as it starts it doesn't feel like they've started off with a good difficulty curve because as of the first two levels it doesn't seem like the difficulty is progressing naturally and getting harder progressively from level to level, and if it does it really doesn't make a good first impression in making it look like that's going to be the case.
