    This only took about 10 minutes to do and it's totally worth it. flamethrower allow lloyd to do about 100 fire damage to enemies. But like all of lloyd's gadgets have a 12.5% chance of breaking after use so be sure to stock up. They are a 1 in 16 drop from b b gang members.

    I abused save states to avoid over-leveling, and it took me about 3 hours total. That's not the worst, though. I once spent 2 entire days trying to recruit a liquid metal slime in Dragon Quest V. That one's both a rare enemy AND a 1-in-256 join-rate.

    the problem with reloading save states is that if you do something in a game the exact same way you are guaranteed the exact same result. so often times you may waste time reloading a state and do stuff the same way hoping to get a rare drop when there won't be any chance of getting it.

    another problem is that sometimes you can save a state after the game has already determined weather or not you will get the item. for example in earthbound the drop you get is determined at the start of the battle and regardless of what you do in the battle you will always get it. this goes without saying but one of the possible determined drops is nothing

    There's a spot where those Starmen are that you can save, and then immediately get in to a new battle with one after a few steps. All you've got to do is open the menu and click through a coup,e of windows at random and it resets the RNG for the new fight.
