so heeeeeyyy this post is gonna be showing a walkthrough of a picture I'm making it's not a tutorial but it basically shows the steps I go through to make a picture (it's a palette thing so it's kinda different from my normal techniques) the steps will be in the comments

  • so this picture will be summer themed the picture will show ice man and chill man trying to survive in the heat I sketched out the background first so I knew what the setting was when I envision the picture I want to create I usually think of the characters first then the background at first I thought of them sitting on a bench outside but that didn't feel "summer-y" enough (cont.)

    Yeahs1
    Played
  • plus I didn't know what to do with the rest of the background so I just thought of summer-y locations and thought "beach" it's a basic sketch to understand the setting also if you couldn't tell I'm gonna be typing a lot so be prepared

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • here's the sketch of chill man it was my first time drawing the character so drawing his uh... big ice thing (I'm talking about the white thing under his head that holds the ice around his head, I don't know) was weird ice man will be right next to him

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • here's the finished sketch with ice man included time for color looking at it now ice man's expression looks kinda sensual oh god

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • so here's the palette I'll be using pretty self-explanatory I wanted something that was bright and had the basic six colors of the rainbow (it doesn't quite cover all the colors but I liked the colors so I'm using it) what I plan to do is use only the warm colors on the background and the cold colors on the characters to make them stand out (with maybe the exception of a few details)

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • the colors look kinda dull on the 3ds so I'd imagine the picture would look better on other devices

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • so here's some progress on the background I'm experimenting with tones

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • here's the completed background onto the characters

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • here's ice man and his slightly suggestive face this picture is gonna be tone heavy I probably should have shown more progress on how I colored him I'll try to show more when I color chill man

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • here's a crummy example of how I work with palettes when I do lineless stuff I am VERY dependent on layers though it's harder on comic workshop because of the five layer limit so I merge layers together often so right now my layers are this: first one is the sketch to follow the next one-two layers are for working on chill next is ice man with all his layers merged finally there is the background

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • the order of layers also depend on stuff that is overlapping for example: the first layer for ice man's head would be the fuzz on his parka next layer would be his face (eyes, mouth) then the final layer is the skin hopefully all of this is making sense

    Yeahs0
    Played
  • now here's a close-up of chill man I gave the image a purple overlay (just fill in a layer with color and lower the opacity) using the purple in the palette because I barely used it in the actual picture it gives it a softer feel which looks kinda nice and with that the picture is complete I think in a little bit I'll post it

    Yeahs0
    Played
