    A Mega Speed Up reduces the number of icons of the Mega evolving Pokémon that need to cleared from the field in order to Mega evolve that Pokémon by one for every Mega Speed Up. For example, before I gave the enhancement to Gengar I needed to make matches that cleared out 11 Gengar for Mega Gengar to appear. Afterwards I only needed to clear out 10 Gengar.
