    Get ingredients (game calls them mats, short for materials I guess) from the store and dungeons/fields. Cook food. Sell food. Buy recipes. Cook/sell better food. Participate in cooking contest at castle once a week (don't remember what day that is). Events will trigger that let you: recruit new party members, go to new dungeons, go to new towns.

    Be sure to talk to everyone at least once and examine bookshelves (you'll get new recipes). Dungeons sometimes have hidden areas with treasure. Your ultimate goal is to find superb ingredients and recipes, to cook something so good that you'll win the highest rank cooking contest (therefore gaining enough fame that Gustav can't buy you out). You'll travel far and explore many dungeons to do this.
