    Because Capcom helped make smash bros with Nintendo and Namco Bandai, Netherrealm (the company that owns Mortal Kombat) mostly likely wouldn't give the rights to those characters, plus there hasn't been a Mortal Kombat on a nintendo console for about 20 years and Netherealm didn't help with Smash Bros.
