Go to the caves to the south west. Kill a fish at the end. Thats how you get the onyx hook. Keep going and you find an exit that takes you near merryville and a factory. Go north to merryville, stock up on stuff, get healed and then go south to the factory. make it through to get a bottle rocket, bring it to the elementary school in merrysville to get Loid in your party. BOOM! loser

The Onyx Hook is in the Crystal Cave under one of Magicant's wells and guarded by the Fish boss. Lloyd is in a trash can on the Roof of Twinkle Elementary in Merrysville, but you need a Bottle Rocket from Sweet's Little Factory to recruit him.
