    and pokemon allows you to make friends without friend codes in a method know as the gts method

    because, they might stalk you online. you know how some people go online and pose as kids, but really want to hurt the person they are pretending too, even if they will never meet. and they might also study your gaming habits, and direct you to websites no one should ever go to.
