Question

Does anyone else feel that X and Y had the most blatantly obvious "best starter"? (Greninja) Delphox: Poor defenses, decent speed, bad movepool Chesnaught: Okay wall with an okay attack stat, but ×4 weakness to flying. Greninja: The pretty fast special attacking ninja with a hidden ability "Protean" that will always give it STAB. Also has its own special move and a really cool looking shiny.

    But if Greninja doesn't 1 shot them then say goodbye to your Greninja. Seriously his defense is so bad that you could probably make it faint by looking at it the right way.

    Also his movepool doesn't cater too well seeing how around 65% of his moves are physical attacks. Even his special move water shureuken is physical. I don't get how throwing something classifies as a physical attack.

    Chesnaught has Spiky Shield and has a signature ability: Bulletproof. Delphox though, it's signature move, Mystical Fire, isn't very great.

    However, Greninja most of time does does KO its opponents. Even if Greninja is flawed, my argument is still that Greninja is the most obvious choice if you are comparing it to the "okay" Chesnaught or the "pretty bad" Delphox.

    greninja are predictable, in fact, very much so. that plus his poor defense makes him a low level threat for good trainers. PS: i know a way game freak can nurf greninja without making him into trash. Wanna know how?

    In the times I've used it, Chesnaught has proven to be a really good physical sponge. Mine has tanked a +6 Bullet Punch from a Mega Scizor before. Not to mention its HA ability makes it immune to Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, and Focus Blast. I've only done it once, but shutting down a Gengar just by standing there feels great.

    Again, I am not saying Greninja is the perfect Pokémon, but it is the obvious starter to pick when compared to Delphox and Chesnaught.

    The only reason Greninja's in smash is because they needed a gen 6 rep. and Greninja is the only one that would work in smash bros.

    I know. I personally love Greninja, even though I haven't used mine in a while. I'm just saying that Chesnaught is pretty decent. Though, I agree with you about Delphox; it's rather lousy.

    @SunnyD: I think I said Chesnaught is an "okay" wall (not anything outstanding, but he/she is viable). I tried to use a Delphox in X and Y, but she died to almost everything and all I really seemed to do with her was Fire Blast and Psychic.

    I've never trained a Delphox, though I've thought about it. You did, however, essentially sum up Delphox's viable movepool. It has some okay non-attaking moves, I think, but using them without getting immediately smashed is a different story.

    Well i believe all pokemon have potential. Even if another pokemon is obviously better. I know this is off topic but I get work done in Uber battles, and I bring Pokemon like Mightyena and Linoone. Most Pokemon are good, depends on how there used.

    Just saying chesnaught was my favorite. It is all up to personal preference. I have fainted plenty of greninja in my days. As well as being beaten by very few greninjas. Also Greninja looks lazy. Really just another frog.
