Question

I have a question. Do all of my pokemon have to be perfect in IVs? I have my starter plus ones I caught and those obtained through trade, and have no idea whether they have perfect IVs. Does everything have to be perfect just to compete?

    you don't need to have perfect ivs to compete.well perfect ivs give you around +30 stat points so they're pretty importantbut you should get ones that enhance the stats you use. here is an example: a greninja only uses special moves (if thats ur moveset) so you would want to have at lest perfect ivs in everthing but attack cause you won't use it.

    But I have no idea if the pokemon I have even have perfect IVs. Combusken's my starter, and the others I caught or obtained in trade. Plus it took my forever just to find these mons, so I feel like I've been pretty fortunate in their natures and abilities.

    go to the battle resort and talk to the ace trainer in the pokemon center and when he lists stats those ivs will be perfect and ones not listed aren't perfect

    They're only important if you plan to battle people online. If you're just playing through the story, there's no need to. The vast majority of pokemon would want perfect IVs in 4 or 5 of its stats. Very few pokemon actually benefit from having a perfect IV in all six of its stats.
