Introduction: I was sitting in a tree, with my dark wings outstretched in the moonlight. I looked up at the starry night sky, its actually peaceful for once… I thought, I knew it wouldn’t last long though.

Then I glanced at the forest floor, seeing a group of wild pikachu frollicking in the distance. “They’ve got it so easy…” I whispered to myself. I quietly tucked in my wings, and fell asleep. I am Serena. And boy, have I got a story for you.

Part One: Not Alone Serena That morning, I stood up and unfurled my wings, and leaped into the air, I pushed my wings up and down, gracefully making my way higher and higher into the air. I love flying, it just, makes me feel alive. It is one of the few perks of being a Swellow Hybrid.

The forest is my home, I just love its natural beauty. Watching the wild pokemon going about their lives is just so calming and peaceful to me. I love my home.

I was thinking all of these things as I soared above the treetops, then a scream interrupted my thoughts. I swooped down, toward the source of the noise.

Soon, I saw a young girl, about my age, with long, dark hair with red streaks in it, racing through the woods, she looked as if she was running from something. I immediately took action, I swerved left and right, dodging trees, making my way towards her.

When I caught up with her, I noticed something, different, about her… She looks like a… I lightly landed on the ground and She looked at me, unsure of what to do, Then she pointed to my wings.

“You’re a….” she started. I nodded, “Yeah...,” I replied. She let out a sigh of relief, “Me too…” she said with a small smile. We looked at each other in silence for a few minutes. “So, uh, what were you running from?” I asked.

She rubbed her forehead and sighed, “Have you ever heard of Team Flare? she asked. Bad memories rushed through my brain at the mention of those words…

“Yes… Unfortunately I do…” I replied. She nodded, “They were chasing me, luckily, I lost them.” she chuckled, “Watch this…” I observed in awe as she changed into a pikachu and hopped on my lap, “Pika-pi!”

she jumped off and changed back to herself. My eyes widened, “Whoa.” She laughed, “The names Zoe, I’m a Zoroark hybrid, if you haven’t yet noticed.” she said confidently. We shook hands, “I’m… Serena.” I said, being my typical shy self.

“I’m a, uh, pokehuman too.” I stuttered. She smiled, “I see that.” She gently brushed her fingers along my wings. “They’re huge.” she said. “Thirteen feet.” I replied.

I liked my wings, although sometimes I wished I didn’t have them. She looked shocked, “Amazing…” we again had a moment of silence, “Team Flare is up to something…” she said.

“I think I know who can help,” I replied. She looked at me and morphed into a Flethinder, and said, “Lead the way.”

Part Two: Old friends Serena Zoe and I burst through the trees, flying high in the sky.

“Where exactly are we going?” She asked. I smiled, “Lumiose.” I replied, she looked at me, she looked nervous, “Don’t worry…” I said assuringly, “We’re seeing my old friend, he can help us.” We flew silently for a few minutes.

Zoe looked at me, “So, how’d you meet Team Flare?” I looked down, “They created me in one of their labs, I was a Test… I escaped when I was eleven. I don’t really want to talk about it…”

Zoe looked at me, “I’m sorry I asked… If it makes you feel better, I too, was an experiment...” We flew in silence until I saw the glittering city lights of Lumiose City in the distance. “We’re almost there…” I said.

We swooped closer to the ground and landed on the roof of the Lumiose City Gym, which looked unlike many of the other gyms I have seen. It is in the heart of Lumiose, and is like a tall, blue-ish looking tower.

Another name for it is Prism Tower. I tucked in my wings, opened a window, and climbed inside, and Zoe followed. When we were inside, a boy Turned around and his eyes widened.

“Serena! What are you doing here?” It was Clemont, the old friend I was talking about earlier. I hugged him and said, “Hey, um, before we try to catch up,” I signaled to Zoe, “Meet Zoe.” I said. Then, she changed back to her human form, and waved at Clemont. And his eyes widened. “She’s... Like me.” I stated.

He looked amazed, “That’s- that’s incredible! I’ve known Serena for a long time, but I never thought there were more like her!” he stuttered. They shook hands, and I said “Sorry to ruin the moment, but…” I looked him in the eyes. “It’s Team Flare. They, uh, have plans.”

Part Three: Finding Fire Zoe Clemont frowned and looked at Serena.

“But… wasn’t Team Flare wiped out a while ago?” Then Serena said, “I was flying, and I saw Zoe. She says They were chasing her,” Serena said and pointed to me. I blushed a bit before clearing my throat and began clearing up what happened.

“I had escaped one of their labs when I was eight, and I had unknowingly been followed. So I hopped from town, to town, to town to try to escape from them. It’s why I never stay in one place for long,” I said.

“I’m still fascinated by the fact you are even here,” Clemont said giving me a look that told all. “But, I know what they’re capable of…” he looked at Serena and nodded, Serena closed her eyes and frowned. “I’ll do anything I can to help.” he said. All of a sudden we heard the trampling stomps of various pokemon.

We ran outside and saw the Forest bordering Lumiose city in flames, “A forest fire!!!” I yelled, “Serena! You and Clemont stay here and make sure nobody’s hurt! I’ll search the fire!” I transformed into a Talonflame and took to the skies. It felt like a moment of paradise as I flew toward the flames. Not the fire part, but the flying, there’s just nothing like it in the world!

When I landed on the forest floor, I morphed into a Blastoise and went to work putting out the fire. I soon saw a boy almost, protected, by the flames. I snapped out of my Trance almost as soon as it began. I put out the fire around him and then after almost an hour it was all out. I turned into myself then ran as fast I could toward the boy.

When I got to him, I noticed something. He had Arcanine ears.

Part Four: Another Member For our Freak Show Serena

I stared blankly at the forest as it got engulfed in flames, unsure of what to do. Clemont rushed outside, and looked at me, “Serena, snap out of it!!!” I still just stared in shock at the flames. Clemont waved his hand in front of my face, “Serena!!!” I blinked and saw his worried expression looking at me, “Is something wrong?”

“I’m fine.” I replied. He nodded and rushed off with a determined look on his face. I turned around and saw a small Fletchling, it was hopping around, in a frantic sort of way. It flapped its wings slightly, as if it was about to fly away. But it didn’t.

I immediately knew something was wrong, I ran to its side, at first, it looked startled, I wanted to unfurl my wings to let it catch my scent, but we were in the middle of Lumiose City, with all of this commotion, I wouldn’t be able to unfurl my fourteen foot wings without being discovered.

Well, there goes that plan. I slowly crept to its side, and picked it up gently. It chirped lightly when I examined its wing, I immediately knew it was sprained. I perched it on my shoulder and it seemed to calm down. I looked around and saw Clemont gathering pokemon, making sure none were hurt.

Where is Zoe? I wondered. I looked in the direction of the forest and saw that the fire was no more. She did it! I soon saw her emerge from the trees, she was running, pulling a boy behind her. It looked as if she was guiding him. He had short, reddish hair and a White hoodie. The boy said something that I couldn’t make out, and she nodded.

When they reached me, Zoe looked at me, and said, “This is Flint. I saw him in the fire.” He nodded, he reached out and touched my arm, “Is this her?” he said warily. I raised my eyebrows and looked at Zoe, “He’s, uh, Blind.” she said softly, and Flint nodded again,

“I’m sorry… It’s just that,” he then lowered his hood and said, “I need your guys’ help…” I stared in shock at what he had just revealed to me.

Serena rubbed her brow, She took Flint’s hand and guided him toward the entrance to the Gym. “Follow me, guys.” She stated. We all did as told, even Clemont eventually caught up to us.

“Serena, what are you doing?” Clemont eventually asked. She opened a door revealing a staircase leading downward, “Basement.” she replied solemnly. Clemont looked at Flint, “Who is this?” he asked.

“That’s Flint.” I Replied. We continued to walk down the stairs to the basement. We walked in silence while Clemont just kept a concerned look on his face and kept his eyes on Flint.

“Why are we going to the basement?” I asked. Serena looked at us, “We’re not safe up there.” she replied solemnly.

We kept walking down the stairs, which seemed endless as we crept down the staircase. I looked over at Serena, and noticed the Fletchling perched on her shoulder, “What’s with the Fletching?” I asked. “It hurt its wing. I’m gonna help it get better,” Serena explained. The small bird chirped in agreement.

Clemont looked worried, “Serena, what’s going on?” he asked. She opened a door and flipped a light switch, revealing an open room with a small table and few beds as well. Serena looked at Clemont, “Nobody knows about this place, right?” She asked.

Clemont shook his head, “No.” he replied. “Never have, never will.” Serena sighed, “Good,” she said. “Where are we?” I asked as we stepped into the room.

Serena closed the rusty door and explained, “This is a safe room. We go here if we’re in a really bad situation. This is also where I stayed when I lived with Clemont.” I thought for a minute, what could she mean?

Part Six: Awkward Sibling Moments Clemont

Zoe looked at Serena with a puzzled look on her face, Serena started to explain. “I took everyone here because I think Team Flare had something to do with the fire. I have a feeling they’re looking for us.” she said.

Zoe nodded and sat down next to her, and they talked quietly. The Fletching on her shoulder looked at me and chirped in curiosity as I continued thinking

I honestly felt sorry for Serena, and Zoe too. I know Serena has been through a lot, and I’ll bet so has Zoe. I wondered what it was like to be special like they are, but Flint soon interrupted my thoughts.

“Team Flare was chasing me through the woods… I tried to defend myself as best as I could, and that resulted in the fire… I’m sorry.” he felt his way to a chair and sat down.

I looked at him and asked, “Why was Flare chasing you?” I asked curiously. Serena and Zoe looked at eachother, then I knew something was up.

I put my hand over my face, “Please don’t tell me…” I started to say, then Flint lowered his hood, confirming my suspicions. He had Arcanine ears. “Does that mean you can-” Flint chuckled, “Play with fire? Yeah.” he replied. I started in shock at what I had just learned. He smiled and held out his hand, my eyes widened as I watched a small orange flame flicker brightly above his hand.

“I can do much bigger, but I don’t wanna burn anything else.” he said. He closed his hand and the flame disappeared. “That’s amazing…” I said in awe. He held out his hand and I shook it. “I’m Flint, if ya haven’t noticed.” he said.

“I’m Clemont.” I replied. We all sat in silence for a few minutes as I started to figure out what was going on. Suddenly, I heard light footsteps descending down the stairs. Serena sat up in alarm,

“I thought nobody knew about this place!” she said. I sighed, “nobody does....” The door opened, and a small girl emerged from the doorway, “Except for my sister….” I muttered. For those of you who don’t know, I have a little sister, her name’s Bonnie.

“Clemont, dad needs your- Serena!” she ran to Serena’s side and hugged her, “What are you doing here?” she asked “And who are they?” she signaled to Zoe and Flint, who shoved his hood over his head before Bonnie could notice his Arcanine Ears.

Serena smiled, “Hey, Bonnie, I missed you too, but this is a real bad situation, and your brother really needs to help us right now. Bonnie nodded,”But what am I gonna tell dad?” she asked, “He still doesn’t know about you.” Bonnie looked at me and frowned.

“Just tell him I have some extra work to do at the Gym, Ok?” I asked her. My sister nodded, “Why can’t I come with?” she begged. “It’s too dangerous, and you’re not gonna go on death-defying situations while I’m responsible for your welfare.” I Muttered to her.

She sighed and walked to the door, “Fine. I’ll go back and tell dad you're busy. Bye Serena! Bye random other people!” she chimed, the door closed and we were alone again.
