    Yes, get the canary chick from the store (for free by saying you'll buy it, then refusing the price), and bring it to the canary sanctuary south of the zoo. Laura the canary is behind a hidden hole in the fence.

    Ana is gotten much later, after you've finished with Merryville. She'll most likely be your third character, unless you do some pretty severe sequence breaking. Don't be surprised if Ninten is nearing level 20-23 by the time she joins at level 1.

    Once you have access to the train station, head to Reindeer and get Ana's hat from a nearby woman. Then, head to Snowman and give the hat to Ana to get her to join your team.
