    It doesn't make the game any less or more fair; instead it's a system put in place to make it worth it for both teams to fight until the bitter end. It's also highly difficult to win with overtime-it requires an awesome comeback... which is exactly what it is, and in general, I believe any team who pulls it off deserves the win. It would only be "unfair" if one team could or couldn't win that way.
