The design of the Mario Kart item system was carefully crafted to make sure that you're always in the moment of anticipation and desire to win. Seriously. If there was no blue shell to stop you once you got into first place, then the race would just be a cakewalk from that point onward, and our beloved Mario Kart would become just another kart racer.

    I'm just saying, cruising in first place is extremely boring, and lacking behind in 12th is excruciating, but in the middle of it? That's when it shines.
