When I need a Pokemon that evolves via a stone for a dex and I don't know if anybody I know has one or is around, I go to the GTS and put up a reasonable offer and say why I want it. It's nice.

    I usually do an Evolution-Chain trade. Like, put one Pokemon holding an evolution item in the GTS, asking for a different one, and continue that way. For instance, I have a feebas with a Marval Scale, I ask for Kadabra. I then trade Alakazam for Milotic, Milotic for Slowking, Slowking for Porygon Z and so on.

    I mean, whatever it takes to complete the Pokedex. Apparently, Karma loves that sort of thing. Once, after completing a long Slowking Chain, I hoped onto Wondertrade and my first pokemon was a 5iv★Female Timid EggMove Swablu. She even had a nice Nickname. (Liberty)

    I got a shiny Groudon in Wondertrade a couple days ago. I'm not a competitive player, I just wanted to collect shinies but I got some from a friend which appear to be competitive and I don't want to waste their gift so I hope to try and learn how to raise them right.
