I understand stopping off topic POSTS in normal game communities (not YT or art apps), but I still don't understand how long conversations in comments or activity feed posts prevent people from communicating and asking ?s in those communities about games. I'm fairly certain you don't have to look at people's comments or follow people who post stuff you don't like. I don't like social networks...

...much outside of Miiverse and would never have tried Miiverse if not for all the great artists that sucked me in, so I am disappointed if this update hurts Miiverse and community organized art events on here. Is anyone clear if you can still draw and post screenshots in comments?

@poisonivy The only way I would get a PS4 and I've stated to colleagues is that I will purchase when the game 'Star Ocean' releases for PS4. @Ninneko What's funny about a pay MiiVerse was what was not wanted by a few when the new MiiVerse was announced. I even commented about a seperate service,but even that was not liked by a few.

What I mean Scott is they're dictating how people should talk, the subject matter etc. I understand the need to control trolling etc. but this just punishes everyone. If you disciplined a child regardless of it's behaviour, good or bad, you'd create a sociopath. The Nintendo website described Miiverse as a place to talk about games and anything, they've reneged on that with the update.

@dj they never said anything miiverse is for game related posts, it's not a punishment it's just getting closer to what it is supposed to be. btw if miiverse updates are 'creating sociopathic children' then there are some deeper issues that need to be adressed...

It is obvious by people's comments that Miiverse is very special to them, more so as many have avoided other social sites and yet delighted in their use of Miiverse. The WiiU is a good console, but poorly supported, badly marketed and showcasing a poor quantity of games (albeit a few AAA titles) it was Miiverse that elevated it above other consoles, now it's becoming the embarrasing relative.

Come on DJ, Nintendo will not ban everyone for talking about different things on their drawings and screen shot posts. We properly won't notice much difference, as long as the conversation isn't obscene or just plain hateful towards other users.

The comment limitation, the ability to use activity feed for posting multiple screenshots from different software (excellent for events such as Art Rivals). Obviously time will tell on these things, but there's an overwhelming mood of discontent in regard the update.

Miiverse may not be so good overall, but I don't think it's all doom and gloom either. I always thought you were optimistic DJ, being a man of the cloth keep the faith buddy.

my thought, we saw miiverse and we have made it into nintendo's social network becuase we either are too young for more popular social networks, the one place we can go to talk about what we really love, games and nintendo or any other reason that makes us feel more at home in this family friendly site instead of the more older 'serius' and 'about our live and not our gaming love' sites but....

apperantly Nintendo thinks otherwise, they don't see miiverse as a get together of fans of games, who talk together with the same thing in comine but they see is as a 'glouting' site, where people post their acomplashment or ask ask the better gamers how to compleate games, if you want that then go to youtube, there you will find loads of lets plays and how toos.

Nintendo, we thought you loved your gamers and I still do but this Miiverse, the one thing that everyone thinks is your one direct connecting to others like themselfs, you have shown nothing but strickness, first with the unfair bannings, second removing the loop hole to the unfair banning and now, 30 post and you're basicly banned from miiverse for the day, what next? well i'll tell you.

Miiverse getting closed down becuase of people quiting becuase they have no freedom on this site and make other connectins to the friends they made on this site. it's clear that we have 'out stayed' our visit but we didn't think we can 'out stay' it so now you're forcing us out. I hope you're happy Nintendo.

@Aidan: I don't know, I'm playing videogames, I love Nintendo and I'm sharing this passion with pictures and drawing of it, if i want to play some RPs I don't do in a community made for videogames, there are Facebook and a lot of social network, this isn't the right one. This is a gaming social network (I know I'm kinda repetitive, sorry)...

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people have been using miiverse as their first/only message board, when that's not what it's supposed to be. That's what Nintendolife is, not miiverse. There's freedom there. Miiverse was never that free. You guys are complaining now, but whenever I've tried to be too free on miiverse and use it like a message board, I've been punished already...

Because Miiverse is trying to be "family friendly" it's been hard for adult fans to talk about Mature rated games. It's ironic that Nintendo even allows communities for M ratec games but we face bans for actually discussing its content. Try talking about anime in the Crunchyroll community without feeling like you're walking on thin ice. I got moderated for describing a violent scene from an anime.

And I was talking about why I didnt like that scene! I basically got modded for saying "kids, this is bad", lol! I even called Nintendo and gave all my complaints, which they noted, and suggested age gates for M communiyies, but none of that shows up in the new update. I've been on game msg boards since I was 14. Miiverse is NOT that. So I've just been trying to use it the way it's used best:

I mostly try to just use it to post screenshots, talk about the screenshot, or draw a picture related to it. I try to stay away from OT or deep serious discussions now (like I should be now, lol), like in the youtube community. Even if I post to the Youtube coomunity I actually try to make sure it's related to an actual video I've seen on youtube, lol.

Ultimately our activity feeds are independent of any set game, so her concern over people not being able to find game SPECIFIC information is moot. Would they rather we discuss the pro's/con's of a given game in the games community, because that would crowd it. I also dont want to go to nitendo life or where ever, give them my email & log in a code. Miiverse is simple. They are acting like

If I have a question or something to post that will lead to a deep discussion I save it for a place outside of miiverse. A place where it's easier to discuss like that. I think Miiverse was never and will never be perfect but it works great with the games, the way it was intended, so as long as it's at least used that way it'll never die.

Thee 400 character limit already makes discussing anything deeply on miiverse a horrible experience, lol.

there is some big social outcry to change the service...there's not from what I see. It also may not be what they first expected it to be used for....but sometimes innovative measures are done on the consumer side, not the producer side. Sometimes side effects/uses not originally intended end up being the reason a product retain (or grows) its popularity.

Remember what happened with Swapnote? Even then, we all payed for the few ppl who decided to use it in a (horrible) way it wasn't intended for. We're still paying for that by not being able to swap fri3nd c0des (im even afraid to mention them). So Nintendo taking drastic measures never surprises me anymore. They think they can tame the internet, an inherent evil (in a sense, that seems heroic XD)

I bet NX won't even have miiverse at all... or it might have an even more restricted version of it, lol.

If you want to socialize, that's where internet forums come to play. Miiverse wasn't made to be a social network after all.

if ninty wishes to "tame" something, they ought enforce the parental controls, starting with the sale of a Nintendo product i've seen more posts than i can remember that ought been del'd but wasn't, if the parents were paying attention, a lot of bad stuff wouldn't have happened, here or anywhere on the internet it's a social problem, not a Nintendo problem, they cannot try to be every1's parents

That's why I wanted age gates for M communities, like only being able to see/enter them if your ID's age is old enough. That way, parents can't complain if their kids break through and see content they don't want their kids to see. Then the blame is on them, not Nintendo. That way games like AVGN can still have screenshots. Ironically, I bet most of the "inappropriate" posts are made by kids lol

I know how you guys feel about her message but I don't think it's right to get mad at her specifically for what she said. She took the time to clarify why the changes were happening (for better or worse), which was collectively decided by the part of Nintendo that runs Miiverse, not by her alone.

But it isn't a social network, lol. That doesn't mean it can't be used as one (or attempted to be), but as you know, if you try to use it that way it works terribly. A social network is inherently not restrictive and encourages freedom. Miiverse just encourages you to post game content, lol. It's nothing beyond a "gaming communuty", as they've said.

An age gate is just the best thing to do really. I like what one of the creator of the Avgn game said about miiverse. "[…] I'd prefer little kids weren't seeing this game's content, but that's something that could easily be solved with an age gate, otherwise it's like allowing children into a nightclub and asking the adults not to swear or dance provocatively." Speaking about their game.

Of course any community is a social thing to an extent, so is miiverse, I'm just saying miiverse has always been terrible for being used exclusively as a "social network" when there's other, better, much less restricted alternatives which actually were meant to be and call themselves "social networks".

Hmm.. I actually found it easier to communicate in other languages when I used fb. I didnt know a lick of spanish but communicated with someone for 2 years in spanish using google translations, lol. Still wasn't easy tho. Honestly, I probably use mv so much for 3 reasons: the games encouraged me to, drawing pics is fun, and my 3ds is my only "mobile device", lol.

very few people will leave, people will choose their words more wisely, and the comunities will be for *gasp* game-related posts. not much is gonna change people.

While I'm not upset, I have a feeling that certain changes COULD upset me... I just won't know for sure until I experience it. The Swapnote incident has come to be a metaphor for how Nintendo solves problems. In its attempt to help some it hurts others. Society has to change. Parents need to realize the internet is inherently dangerous and should either educate their kids first or keep them off.

Funny, now that I think of it, I feel like they actually teach their kids "don't let your innocence be violated!" then let them on to the internet, where they become the voice of outrage for their parents whenever they come across something they feel they shouldnt. "Special" is the Word indeed, on both events people have become at least acquainted with other people, not only Real (or Unreal, like Me!) Miiverse is the only social network i actually use.We are all in synergy here.Some things about upcoming updates seem to only make it more difficult to make new friends and chat.Also, without an activity feed,how are we going to see new posts from people we follow?Hope miiverse continues to be somewhat viable or else i would rather keep in touch somewhere else,as this place gets less appealing.

Miiverse gave me a shot at my dream of being able to create, and I will not just sit by and allow everything that we all have worked so hard for to be taken away all because these employees don't know a single thing about how true Miiversians think!
