The game really opens up after you launch the rocket from Duncan's Factory. Here's a few locations to visit and things to do there: Reindeer: Get Ana's hat and visit the mouthwash man Spookane: Get a melody Snowman: Add Ana to your party Yucca Desert: Get a melody Youngtown: Learn a new PSI Ellay: Add Teddy to your party, prepare for the endgame on Mt. Itoi

The mouthwash man is an optional side quest, but if you do it, you'll get a place to buy mouthwash cheap. You can either use it to cure colds or sell it for a profit to make grinding for money faster.

It's east and a little south of Ellay. Use your map to judge where you're going. There are two little black dots; one is a house where you can get free healing, and the other is the mouth of a cave that starts you on your trek up the mountain.
