Let's think logically about something. In this game, you're a young squid creature that has to have parents of some kind (I'm not sure if you would hatch or be born because normal squids come from eggs, but you're humanoid). I mean, you can't just phase into existence. Therefore, you are a kid and a squid at the same time. You don't have to choose a favorite anymore... you can be both.
