    I kept throwing captains on it, nudging it a bit each time. When it got close to shore, I was able to push it onto land and have the reds here carry it.

    Now that I think of it, I did try that, but got tired of it. It may have been on my first time through the game, I don't remember. All I know is it was long ago that I noticed that (I wanted the fruit real bad, so it probably was my first time).
