So that's The Monstrous Turnabout complete. I'll go into more details in the comments as always later today, but for now I thought it was a surprisingly good case, and the last hour or so was classic Ace Attorney plot-twist after plot-twist. Now then, onto Turnabout Reclaimed!

On a final note of the main cast, I like how Phoenix seems to be taking a more Mia Fey-esque role this time around, and it’s really cool to see the protégé become the mentor...

  • …this many years later in the Ace Attorney storyline. Getting back to the actual case, in sheer honesty I really didn’t think I would like it much as it got going. Old complaint shortened a bit: I really didn’t like the supernatural aspects of the original trilogy and I really appreciated Apollo Justice for removing them, and I was really worried that 5-2 would take things in that direction again…

  • …thankfully I didn’t have anything to worry about, and for all the talk of monsters and other things not-so-rooted in reality, the case in general boiled down to legitimate whodunits instead of AA1, 2, and 3 science fiction. I liked the unique characters in general, such as Damian Tenma and Jinxie, even if they weren’t my favorite case-exclusive characters in the series by a longshot, I was also…

  • …glad to see Trucy back as well (even if her 2013 theme is nowhere near as good as it’s 2007 predecessor, but alas). Continuing on (wow, 5-2 introduces a ton of characters), I don’t really have any serious thoughts on Simon Blackquill, he looks awesome, and the samurai thing he has going on is cool, but other than that I never really felt that intimidated by him, which is what they seemed to be…

  • …going for. As for Bobby Fulbright, I’ll make this quick: Awesome music, annoying character, quit incoherently rambling about justice and just talk to me already. To talk about the investigations in Dual Destinies, admittedly, I do wish they were a bit less streamlined, and really miss being able to investigate any location in the game instead of just certain areas, but it’s something I can live…

  • …with considering how this new investigation style feels a lot more balanced, being more obvious than I would like, but far less vague than some of prior Ace Attorney game’s investigation segments, so hopefully AA6 continues to refine this balance. By far the best part about this case for me was the final trial day. Dual Destinies, between 5-1 and this, is absolutely amazing in this regard, and…

  • …just like with Turnabout Countdown, the final hour or so of the case was Ace Attorney at its absolute best, throwing plot twists at you in rapid succession, and delivering on those textbook “You’ve got to be kidding me…oh wow, you aren’t kidding!” moments that the series is known for, and I must have jumped out of my seat and shouted at my 3DS at least twice. As a whole I feel like 5-2 was, more…

  • …than anything, there to continue introducing and developing characters. I can’t call it a filler ”episode” since it was still a pretty good case and developed the characters more, but that definitely seemed to be one of its main focuses, not that I’m complaining at all since 1-2, 2-2, and 3-2 all did this as well, and in my opinion were far worse than 5-2 is (nothing will ever top Turnabout…

  • …Corner as far as second cases go, in my opinion, though). So overall, really, really solid case. I enjoyed it, and much like 1-3, while it’s not anything phenomenal it’s a solid case that I had a lot of fun with (when I was actually playing it and not just listening to Apollo’s objection theme – So good), I have it ranked 12th out of the 25 cases I’ve played in the series so far.

  • @Noah: Yeah, completely agreed. Not to say there aren’t any, but I can’t think of any other case in the series that took something that you probably felt clever for figuring out early on in the case and completely turning it around at the last second – Utterly brilliant.

  • @ Noah I think Dual Destinies is particularly good with twists. The new investigations are one step forward and another step backward, but they can be tolerated. On to the best example of a filler case in the entire series.

  • @ JohnnyTLP Apollo hasn't even had his most important scenes, yet you're already satisfied with him? Too bad he only gets 1/4 of a case in the remaining game.

  • @Noah: Not particularly "satisfied", just impressed. If he were to, hypothetically, never appear in DD again after this I would definitely consider his character underused, but just comparing him in 5-2 to every case in his own game, as an observation, he's massively better here.

  • @ Kartracer Wow, you're correct about it being Scooby-doo. How come there weren't any references in this case about that?

  • Apollo grows up enormously in this game. In fact, I dare to say that he was the most profit taken here, considering all his insecurities in AA4. I loved to see his developing in Dual Destinies!
