    It's an eggplant with two pair of chopsticks stuck into it. This is the counterpart to the cucumber horse. They are decorations used during oban. Oban is a Japanese holiday to honor the spirits of the dead. The spirits should arrive like a horse (fast) and depart like a cow (slow).
