    It is theorized this takes place in the future, after humans have gone extinct and left only relics (the treasures from Pikmin 2 and such)so it's possible it's been so long that continents shifted together again.

    I think the aliens saw earth and though it looked boring so they wiped out all the humans and are trying to combine all the continents to take over the world easier so they dont have to go across oceans. Theses aliens are the pikmin and the future is nearly here they are taking over the consoles just look at system transfers.
