Apparently Nintendo filed a patent for a console with no optical (disc) drive. If it's for the NX, this could mean it will support digital distribution only, meaning no more buying physical copies at the store. It would be the first big non-Android console that only supports downloadable games. Thoughts?

    maybe it will use cartridges, since cartridge tech has been improving lately

    A lot of people are saying it's possible it could use SD card-like things like the 3DS, since they can be made as big as 100+GB now. It's what I'd like to see, especially considering they are faster than disc drives too.

    it could also be the next hand held :p also, it could be that the new system will have cards like 3Ds, be a combination of hand held and stationary console, and games are streamed from the handheld

    I hear a lot of people suggesting that it will be a hybrid console/handheld, but there's no evidence to back it up, at least not yet. I would like to see such a device though. As for a new handheld... It's way too early considering the New 3DS... I hope it's not that.
