This game should have been rated T before it was released.

Melee and Brawl should have had the lower ratings. It's like the only time they got the rating right was the N64 game.

  • Those looked like burn marks to me and I've seen more blood in PG movies.

  • there are many suggestive themes in ssb most of them involve humor(take warios waft for example and some character trailers)and the others are dead serious such as bayonetta earthbound masterpiece and palutana

  • I played Melee when I was 9. To this day, I still think there was no reason for it's T rating. Brawl had very few suggestive themes, but not to the point where it had to be marked on the back of the case. From playing all of the games myself I think that the 3DS/Wii U version is less suited to younger people than Melee and Brawl.

  • It wouldn't bother me as much if new players weren't going around making uneducated statements like: "This is a kids/family game!" and "Bayonetta's too inappropriate!"

  • The real question is, why was MELEE T rated?!?

  • That's what I mean Vennek Jr. I'm old enough to play all of them but how do games with an equal level of violence, but less crude humor/suggestive themes if any, get a HIGHER rating?

  • the people who made ssb don't add blood because it would count as real fighting i quess

  • The E10+ rating didn't exist when Melee came out; it was either E or T and Melee's realism compared to the N64 original made it closer to the T rating than E. Brawl was probably rated T due to Snake's inclusion, but that's pure conjecture on my part. As for why SSB4 isn't rated T, your guess is as good as mine. I think it may be due to the presentation being less realistic and more vibrant.

  • You have to remember that Melee's graphics were absolutely stunning for 2001; characters like Bowser, C.Falcon, etc. looked extremely detailed in relation to what graphics were capable at the time. SSB4's graphics aren't nearly as impressive as Melee's were for its time, which may have some influence on why its rating is lower. There's also the idea that tolerance for violence in games has...

  • increased over time. ESRB has gotten considerably softer over the years as the public's acceptance of violence in video games changes. I remember how shocked I was when Shadow the Hedgehog came out and was rated E10+ despite swearing, gunplay, and a somewhat depressing story, while a game like Vexx (look it up if you don't know it) was rated T. The ratings are definitely inconsistent sometimes.

  • @Silvereye I play Shadow the Hedgehog, and I enjoy it, and even though I was 10 when the game came out and could handle the content, I still thought it should've been rated T. I don't think our parents would want us to go around school swearing and pretending to use guns. Melee's graphics were good for its time, but I never really thought the game looked realistic though.

  • I don't think realism should cancel out everything else. That's like saying Sesame Street has more mature content than Family Guy or South Park. I understand why The LoZ: Twilight Princess and Hyrule Warriors have their higher ratings, disregarding the Redeads and Gibdos of course.

  • ssb4 was a lot more cartoon like which is probably why it's not T.

  • It still doesn't look like blood to me, and I wouldn't think that 10 seconds of that image would be more suggestive than some of the "alternates" and other things on (or in) characters in this game.
